Live the Impressionist Vision at Château d'Auvers

Dec 3, 2019

The building, erected in 1635 for a banker of Marie de Medici suite, has kept only few traces of its original Italian style. Becoming a French castle, it went through many changes over time, passing through the hands of several owners who added their personal touch to the architecture of the place. The castle inspired Van Gogh a painting that was made shortly before the death of the artist, in the town of Auvers-sur-Oise. Eminent figures of the impressionist style such as Cézanne, Pissaro or Monet spent time in the Oise Valley in the center of France, region strongly marked at the time by the pictorial movement.

In 1994, the castle becomes a center for the interpretation of art, after its acquisition by the Val d'Oise General Council in 1987. Several parts of the building are classified as a historical monument, and it hosts in its midst grandiose exhibitions valuing the Impressionist style, its origins and ascendants. Garden lovers will also be seduced by the exceptional location of its five-hectare park, overlooking the Oise Valley. Including splendid French gardens, other spaces with Italian inspiration or English influence. The park also contains some superb creations of remarkable flowers.

The renovation undertaken in the early 90s by the General Council enabled the building to install in some parts of the castle reception rooms available for rent. The place can accommodate up to two hundred people, weddings or business seminars are organized in modular spaces. The castle is also offering a range of varied services. For the comfort of users, Collinet furniture was chosen to dress the rooms intended for receptions: Quadra dining tables, as well as the Merryl chairs, selected for their comfort and modern design. The historical wealth of the castle, its beauty and its modernity make it a most privileged place for the organization of events.

Château d'Auvers invites you to discover the virtuoso palettes of the great masters of Impressionism in the heart of an exceptional monument. Do not miss the sumptuous gardens, and the Nymphaeum of the northern orangery, dated from the 18th century.
